Stand Down Event:  The term “Stand Down” comes from times of war, when exhausted solders requiring brief periods of rest were removed from the field of combat to a safe, secure place

Homeless Veterans often live in environments that are similar to combat zones.  These hostile environments are more often than not, violent, crime ridden, drug and alcohol fueled dens of injustice which continue our Veterans trauma.  This is why The Veterans Administration is doing all in their power to end Veteran homelessness.

In 2009, the VA announced an ambitious goal to end Veteran homelessness.  This plan to address this urgent national priority has put into action Federal, State, Local and Private entities to prevent Veterans from becoming homeless and to provide resources to those who are homeless become stably housed as quickly as possible to those that request help.

The Louis A. Johnson VAMC is a stellar example of the commitment to prevent and help end Veteran homelessness.  The LAJVAMC family takes seriously their role in providing every available resource to these Veterans in need.  Social Workers work tirelessly to work with our Veterans to help them define their goals for independence and work with their treatment teams to ensure medical and mental health care needs are met.  These Social Workers go over and above, to reach out to the community resources such as HUD/VASH, Department of Health and Human Resources, Social Security, Vocational Rehab, Employment Services, as well as finding safe temporary housing exclusively for Veterans.

This year’s event will be held at the Clarksburg Armory, 5 Armory Rd. Clarksburg, WV. 26301, in the gymnasium.  Sign in for the event will be at the Armory.
