The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center COVID-19 Infusion Clinic is staffed by a team of specially trained nurses. Each nurse has extensive experience in emergency medicine, critical care, and administering specialty infusions. The total time spent in the clinic is approximately three hours. The medication is administered by IV over one hour, followed by an additional hour or more of monitoring vital signs and watching for any side effects or allergic reaction. The infusion helps the body fight off COVID related symptoms and can reduce the need for hospitalization.
Enrolled patients can drive up to the white tent in the traffic circle next to the main entrance to request a COVID test. Patients are to remain in their vehicle, and a specially trained nurse will perform the test at the vehicle. Drive through clinic tests are three day send out tests. If the COVID swab is positive, then patients will receive a call daily during the quarantine period to assess for any new or worsening symptoms. Each Veteran that tests positive at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center is contacted by a physician to determine if criteria is met for the COVID infusion.
