The area is placarded to not permit smoking within 100 feet of the bulk O2 tank. Facility staff have identified the existing Canteen patio and associated smoking shelter to be within the boundary limits of the O2 storage tank. In the best interest of safety to the facility patients, visitors, and staff, smoking on the Canteen patio will be prohibited effective Sunday, December 02, 2018.
Also, VHA Directive 1085 Smoke Free Policy for VA Health Care Facilities states, “designated smoking areas shall be no closer than 35 feet to any entrance or building opening (e.g., air intake units/vents, windows that open) that could allow secondhand smoke to enter.”
In the interim, the facility will retain a designated smoking area Outside the main entrance of the facility. Signs will be posted.
